Policy and Research Experience

2017.  Brokerage Coordinator, Cushman & Wakefield, New York, NY

During the first half of 2017, I was fortunate enough to work at Cushman & Wakefield’s top investment sales team in Manhattan — The Knakal Group (formerly Massey Knakal). Under the supervision of chairman Bob Knakal, I was directly involved in the marketing and brokerage of several multi-million dollar portfolios in the New York Metropolitan Area.

2016.  Professional Research Associate, CIECODE, Madrid, Spain
Upon graduating from Duke University, I accepted a full-time position as a professional research assistant at top Spanish think tank CIECODE while I completed my graduate school applications. My main project(s) there involved extensive research and reporting on the status of business-related human rights in European Union countries (including a paper recently accepted for publication), as well as co-conducting teaching seminars on good research practices for human rights investigations.

2015.  Professional Research Assistant, Duke University, Durham, NC
Working in the Political Science department throughout the 2015-16 academic year, I collected and analyzed extensive survey data on public opinions of international security organizations (UNSC and NATO in particular) and how these affect state decisions to go to war. I was so intrigued by this topic that I eventually extended it into my senior honors thesis, making me the first ever undergraduate in the Politics department’s history to conduct a public opinion survey experiment with such a large, representative and statistically reliable sample of subjects.

2015.  Trade Agreements Specialist, U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Washington, DC. Working under the Obama administration in the Office of Trade Agreements Negotiations and Compliance (TANC), single-handedly resolved several customs legislation disputes in Latin America, and orchestrated the most recent round of WTO TBT Committee meetings. Investigated crucial transparency problems in several of the US Free Trade Agreements currently in place, briefing the relevant Desk Officers and foreign government representatives on how to improve these.

2014.   Research Associate, CIECODE, Madrid, Spain
Investigated sustainability issues in international investment policy and bi-lateral investment treaties, helping to create a methodology for analyzing and evaluating this component across international investment agreements. This system is now used by UNCTAD to monitor investment treaties.

2013.   International Trade Intern, US Foreign Commercial Service, Madrid
Helped US companies and investors identify core commercial opportunities by producing international market research reports on the medical and tourism industries. Organized the first-ever SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, DC, as well as a US trade mission to Spain for the government of Miami-Dade county. Provided technical assistance with several other FCS Spain services by translating documents and acting as an interpreter in meetings.
